Low Impact Sustainable Living
Eco-Friendly Facilities to Help You Enjoy Your Holiday
We try to live lightly on the land and ask that you do too, so please be responsible in your use of resources. Water comes from a well on the land and electricity is from a solar system. As the permaculture saying goes "waste is just an unused resource" - we compost and recycle, and even your "humanure" is put to good use!
Kitchen Caravan

The Kitchen Caravan is situated on a terrace below the Mongolian Yurt, above the Pixie Yurt, and just along the track from the Woodland Yurt. It has a dining table and bench seating for 4, a two-ring gas hob, a cool box, a hay box cooker, and plenty of crockery, cutlery, pans and kitchen utensils - everything you need for making snacks and light meals (seasonal organic produce is available for purchase, along with other basics such as flour, rice, pasta, coffee, tea, sugar, etc).
Outside the Kitchen Caravan is a washing-up area and a large shaded dining table and bench seating for 10 people. There's also a hammock and a toddler-sized slide for those not doing the cooking! The Kitchen Caravan even has its own little organic herb garden which you are welcome to help yourself from.
I've appreciated the kitchen caravan, which becomes quickly warm & cosy just by heating a flower pot & popping the kettle on - just what we needed on those chilly early mornings with the kidz.

Composting Toilet & Solar Shower

Along the track from the Mongolian and Pixie Yurts, and below the Woodland Yurt is the shared composting toilet (loo with a view!) and solar shower. As water is heated by the sun, hot showers are only available when it is shining, but in summer the water heats very quickly. There's a cold water tap with basin and mirror outside the building for hand-washing, shaving, brushing teeth, etc. Another solar shower is located next to the swimming pool. If you'd like your own solar shower bag then we have some available for your use.
We had read on the website about the "loo with a view" and they weren't joking!

Outdoor Bathtub

The most romantic bath you'll ever take! Situated in a secluded spot amongst the organic gardens is the stone-surrounded outdoor tub. Heated by a wood fire underneath it's an especially magical experience at night, when you can lie in the bath and look at the stars. Great for shared baths as it's filled with fresh spring water from a hosepipe so no-one has to have the "tap end"! The Bath Garden has been newly planted with refreshing / relaxing herbs to put in your bath.
Wonderful welcome, fantastic yurt, great food, magical bath and amazing adventures.

Swimming Pool

16 foot (approx. 4m) diameter above-ground swimming pool. You'll soon forgive its ugly plastic-ness when you take a dip in its cool waters, kept sparkling and fresh with eco-friendly AquaSmarter Ionizing Capsules. There's a solar shower next to the swimming pool and it's essential that no sun cream or other skin/hair products etc. go into the water - so please shower before using the pool.
We've had such a good time exploring all your river swimming recommendations ... and of course the little swimming pool for morning and moonlit dips.

Outdoor Fires
There is a fire-pit near the Kitchen Caravan which you are welcome to use, but please note that outdoor fires are illegal in Portugal between May - September due to the risk of forest fire.
Here you can enjoy a vacation on the countryside with happy dirty dogs, catty cats, beautiful horses and the occational three or four spiders in the out-door bathroom.
